Spanish TV presenter slammed for dubbing Hazard ‘another Bale’ after Chelsea defeat

Eden Hazard was dubbed ‘another Gareth Bale’ and accused of ‘taking the p***’ by a furious Spanish TV presenter after his disappointing display in Real Madrid’s 2-0 defeat to Chelsea on Wednesday night.

The Belgium captain was anonymous on his return to Stamford Bridge as Chelsea booked their place in the Champions League final at Los Blancos’ expense and sparked fury after the match when he was spotted laughing with former Blues teammate Kurt Zouma.

Josep Pedrerol, the host of popular TV talk show El Chiringuito, summed up the feelings of many Madridistas as he let rip on the 30-year-old by comparing his form to Bale, who is on loan at Tottenham from Real Madrid.

With menacing music playing in the background, Pedrerol said: “Two years of taking the p*** out of Real Madrid supporters, two years of being overweight.

“A lot of people say he is the new Bale. Madrid have spent years waiting for him, negotiating for him, spent £100m on him.

“They’ve just been eliminated, and it is possible for him to find something funny?

“After Zidane gave him the opportunity to play when he didn’t deserve it? He laughs at everyone?

“The situation with Hazard is very serious. Hazard cannot continue for one second more in Madrid.”

Spanish football expert Graham Hunter, though, hit back at Pedrerol’s criticism by defending Hazard, who has been plagued by injury since joining Real Madrid from Chelsea in 2019.

He told Paul Hawksbee and Max Rushden on talkSPORT: “He [Pedrerol] is a greasy muppet and I’m ashamed the UK is being exposed to him.

“It’s like getting your football news by going down the hair salon – he’s a disgrace to broadcasting. That programme is rank sewage.

“He isn’t the mouthpiece for the response from Spain and the Real Madrid fans.

“It’s that old news of Eden Hazard arriving a few years ago and being a few kilos overweight – he spoke about it and admitted his folly.

“But the thing that has condemned Hazard to never be able to reach the heights for Chelsea or the Belgium national team with Real Madrid, came when PSG came to the Bernabeu last season.

“They drew 2-2 and during that Thomas Tuchel-inspired draw PSG inflicted, Thomas Meunier stamped on Hazard’s ankle.

“He then was out for months, the operations have never quite gone well enough, and when he came back the ankle problem kept recurring.

“So if you stand back and listen to idiots like the greasy muppet, then it’s all about this ‘Hazard failure’. And, in fairness, it hasn’t gone well and the initial part of that was self-inflicted.

“But having his ankle stamped on when he was just getting up speed, and also really clicking well with Karim Benzema, that wasn’t his fault.

“It’s been nothing but problems, it feels like a jinxed signing – similar to Kaka, when Real Madrid lusted after him, couldn’t sign him when they wanted and then got him at a time where neither club nor player were really ready for each other.

“It’s sad to watch Hazard. He’s in trouble, and normally what Real Madrid do is they churn their Galacticos over if it’s not working. So there’s a decent chance…”
