Manchester United loanee Jesse Lingard has been backed for an England recall by Ole Gunnar Solskjaer ahead of the Red Devils’ fifth round FA Cup clash against West Ham.
The 28-year-old joined the Hammers on a six-month loan deal last month and got off to a superb start by hitting a debut double in the 3-1 victory over Aston Villa last week.
However, he is ineligible to play against his parent club when they go head-to-head in the FA Cup on Tuesday evening – with full commentary of the clash LIVE on talkSPORT.
As per rules of loan agreements, the club loaning out the player have the right to stipulate that said player cannot play against them.
Lingard featured in just two Premier League matches for the Red Devils before reuniting with David Moyes in east London with the hopes of reinvigorating his career.
And Solskjaer believes the forward is seizing his opportunity and backed him to have an influence once more on the international stage.
“I’m so happy for Jesse,” he said. “When we let him out, we felt we had to do the right thing by Jesse because he has been so professional, so good around the place, working really hard.
“He is always a bright character around the place. The times when I have not even had him in the squad, it has been difficult.
“But the conversations I have had with him have always been: ‘Be ready for when you get the chance. If it’s not here, you will definitely find it somewhere else’.”
Earlier on Tuesday, Mark Hughes said Moyes’ deal to bring Lingard to West Ham was a ‘good’ piece of business.
“He’s always been a good player,” Hughes told talkSPORT.
“He’s obviously come through the ranks and has always been a player that I’ve liked to watch in terms of the ability that he’s got.
“Credit to him he hasn’t played a lot of football. He wasn’t playing for United at all really before he left for West Ham.
“For him to have an instant impact is a credit to him. He’s obviously been training well and hasn’t been disappointed when he hasn’t been playing and looked ready to go whenever he’s asked.
“I think it’s been a good bit of business from David Moyes to get him in.”
